To Soundcheck a Slinky

We were pleased to receive an invitation to run sound for Big Blow and the Bushwackers at Yorkfest last Saturday.  What fun!  They had home-made maracas for the audience to play along with and some very unusual instruments including a didgeridoo, a grass clipper, and a slinky.

My daughters and I even made the ABC27 Evening News that night :)

LCC Wedding – August 2010

There’s nothing quite like an enthusiastic bridal party!  They set the tone for the entire evening and it almost doesn’t matter whether you play a Jitter-Bug or the Cha-Cha Slide, the dance floor will scarcely be empty throughout the night.

This reception was fun and yet wholly authentic in sincerity and celebration.  The newlyweds chose to honor their guests by doing an “Anniversary Dance,” which starts with all married couples on the dance floor.  Years and then decades of marriage are asked to move to the side of the dance floor until the new bride and groom are accompanied only by the longest married couple in attendance.  It is always a very poignant moment.

They also asked their guests to gather in a “Closing Circle,” where each guest is given the opportunity to give advice, wish them well, or tell a fond memory.  And in closing, the bride and groom are given the chance to thank their guests for being a part of their special day.

While I always include some of my own photos in these posts, I like to acknowledge the hired photographer for the event, Voni Photography & Fine Arts, and the videographer, Phil Spreadbury.

Susquehanna Club Wedding – July 2010

The Susquehanna Club has a lot to offer as far as venues go.  They had two ballrooms busy – the receptions were one hour apart – and you would have never known it!  B&L Photography and Video were very active in capturing every possible moment with great enthusiasm.

As you can see below, we had our third assistant along and it was so nice to find we had place cards acknowledging each one of us.  And how cute is it that Shawn and I had two stones on our card – one for each of us!  It’s the little touches that make me smile :)

Rock Ford Plantation Wedding – July 2010

Historic Rock Ford Plantation in Lancaster, PA is a great atmosphere for a wedding and/or reception.  It is a secluded location that has the feel of “home.”  This couple chose an outdoor tent reception and, even in the rain, it was a beautiful event.

Rettews Catering was also first class and great to work with.

Dairy Farm Wedding – June 2010

Not everyone has access to a dairy farm for their wedding reception but it did make for a beautiful setting!  You can see all of the pictures on our Facebook Page Here.

Sir D’s Catering was very professional and the food was amazing!  You can see more about Sir D’s on their website here.

Some Assistance Please!

Since Shawn tore his Achilles tendon a couple of months ago, we’ve had to adjust our standards a bit.  The first wedding after his surgery, Shawn took two assistants and conducted the evening from a wheelchair.  After that he upgraded to crutches but we still needed the extra assistant simply to carry and set up the heavy equipment.

Now that we’ve done a handful of engagements with two assistants, we’re officially spoiled.

Since Shawn is still in a boot and enduring physical therapy, the extra assistant continues to be a necessity.  But when he’s all healed up, we may just keep the third wheel rolling :)

A New Prom Perspective

For the teenager, prom is usually one of the things you look forward to all year long…”What will I wear?  What will I do with my hair?”  For the chaperons and DJ???   Not so much.  The questions are more like, “How are we going to keep these kids safe?,” and “How can we keep things clean AND fun, considering that the music they want to hear only seems to have 3 themes: sex, alcohol, and the love of money?”

Shawn spent hours listening to the requests they were posting on their Facebook page and ruled out a great majority of them after the first few bars.  I can’t imagine what would have happened if he didn’t because even with all of his preparation, our “clean” radio versions somehow got all of their swear words back in them from the dance floor instead of the sound system.  And to be honest, I remember the days when I was one of those carefree kids on the dance floor making my chaperons nervous.

Should I even mention the fact that I’ve never seen kids dance the way they do today and completely date myself?!  Naah…

Instead I’ll share these pictures of some pretty happy prom goers and send a few prayers out into the world :)

Can you guess which sharp dressed couple we are?!  Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!

LCC Ladies Tennis Team P-A-R-T-Y!

I just have to say that the Lancaster Country Club’s Ladies Tennis team was a riot last night!  I do believe the Radiology Association banquet attendees from across the hall were jealous.  I think we even had a few party crashers ;-)

Even though it was a small private party, with an obviously close group of ladies, there are always a few obstacles to overcome.  We weren’t slated to play dinner music but there were delays and they hadn’t even started eating by the time we were supposed to start playing.  Our great host for the evening, Tracy, wasn’t sure what we would be willing to do but we assured her that it’s our policy to “go with the flow” and that we were there for her!  We quickly discussed what type of cocktail/dinner music they would like and got to work.

Throughout the evening we played at least one song from the last 4 decades in order to please everyone (Shawn and I love it all).  The number one favorite song of the night had to be, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey since the LCC ladies weren’t the most winning-est team last year, but they are determined to improve their game this year!

I also want to mention a special “Thank you” to Molly for recommending us for the night!  We hope you all have a great year and invite us back to celebrate with you again!

A Great Way to Spend St. Valentine’s Day

What could be better for an engaged couple than to spend Valentine’s Day planning for, and dreaming about, your wedding day?!  Although the weather may have been a deterrent for some, we enjoyed meeting the brave souls who came to the Lebanon Daily News Bridal Show yesterday!  We were also privileged to run sound and announce for the fashion shows that were put on by Expressions from Mt. Aetna and Encore Boutique from Annville.

If you were one of those “brave souls,” you likely spoke to Shawn or our colleague Fred (from Absolutely Live Band).  We wanted to express our passion for providing quality entertainment and desire to make your special day, well…YOURS!
